The Barn Buddies Program

  • Supporting a barn cat is the safest way to control barns rodent population. They will keep rodents away from grain and food storage areas.

  • Barn cats are adopted in numbers of two or more. A friend can be an important factor in making the transition successful.

  • All barn cats will be vet checked prior to adoption and will be spayed/neutered and vaccinated.

  • Initially, the barn cats must be confined in their new barn home for three to four weeks to familiarize them with the new environment and remain on the premises after release. During the transition period they will live in a comfy transition kennel inside their new home barn and receive daily food and water from their new care-givers.

  • Upon release the cats will want to explore their new home and find good hiding places. Cats are territorial creatures and because their scent has infiltrated the barn they will think of it as home and stay.

  • Cats aren't better hunters if they are hungry. The best guarantee to keep cats happy hunters is to provide a steady source of food and water. Otherwise, they may move away and look for nourishment elsewhere.

  • Feral cats are just as healthy as pet cats. They live healthy, natural lives content in their outdoor home. Daily tending to the cats needs allows monitoring to ensure they are healthy.
