Dog Adoption Process and Fees

Before Applying

Read the "Are you ready to adopt?" section. This is a crucial prerequisite.

The Adoption Process:

If you’re interested in a pup you spotted online or met at an event, don’t hesitate to fill out an application! Just so you know, it's not a race—finding the best match for each furry friend is what we’re all about. Thanks for understanding! Our awesome volunteers will review your application, and if you're approved, you’ll hear from us within 3 business days to set up a meet. Good luck! 🐶❤️

Availability:

Meets are only for animals listed as AVAILABLE. Animals not listed are not available for adoption.

No Holds/Deposits:

The organization does not accept deposits, hold animals, ship them, or maintain waiting lists for unposted animals.

During the Meet and Greet

Supervised Introduction:

Adoption staff will supervise your first interaction with the adoptable animal.

Interaction & Assessment:

You'll have the opportunity to interact with the animal, including walks (if permitted), to gauge compatibility and your handling skills.

Family Attendance:

The ENTIRE FAMILY must be present at the meet and greet.

Existing Dog Compatibility:

If you have existing dogs, they MUST attend a compatibility check at the shelter.

Important Considerations for Booking Appointments

Home Environment Match:

Consider how the animal will fit into your home environment.

Avoid Mismatches:

Don't book with a nervous dog if you have children.

Don't book with a high-energy breed if you cannot provide adequate mental stimulation.

Requirements for Existing Dogs

Vaccinations:

Must be up-to-date on vaccinations.

Spay/Neuter:

Must be spayed or neutered. Medical exceptions may be considered.

If It Doesn't Work Out (Returns)

Welcome Back:

Toe Beans is committed to taking back their dogs at any time, regardless of how long they've been adopted, because their well-being is the top concern.

General Returns (Circumstances Change/Not a Fit):

You can receive a 50% refund within 5 days of adoption. Returns after 5 days will have NO REFUND and require a surrender fee.

Returns for Serious Behavioral Issues (within 5 days):

If there's a serious, unforeseen behavioral issue that concerns the safety of you, your family, or other pets, the dog can be returned within 5 days for a full refund.

Family Not Present at Adoption:

If the entire family wasn't present at the original adoption and the animal is returned, there will be NO REFUND, but the animal must be returned to the organization.

Note:

The organization dedicates significant resources (time and energy) to candidate selection, meeting arrangements, and foster home coordination.

Dog Adoption Fees:

Puppies: under 1 year- $525

Dogs: 1 year-6 years- $450

Senior Dogs: 7 years and up- $275

Just a quick note about our furry friends: All of our dogs are spayed or neutered, microchipped and come fully vaccinated with their core vaccines and rabies shots. If you’re adopting a puppy under 4 months, they’ll have received at least 2-3 sets of vaccines, depending on their age. And if they’re 4 months or older, they’ll be up to date with their rabies shot too! So you can snuggle your new buddy with confidence knowing they’re protected.🐾

Payment:

Accepted via cash, debit, credit (additional charge), or e-transfer (EMT). Full payment is due at the time of adoption.
