Dog Adoption Process & Fees

Before submitting an application, please read our “Are You Ready to Adopt?” section carefully. This is a crucial prerequisite to ensure adoption is the right decision for both you and the dog.

The Adoption Process

If you’re interested in a dog you’ve seen online or met at an event, we encourage you to complete an adoption application. Please remember—adoption is not a race. Our goal is always to find the best possible match for each dog and each family.

Once your application is submitted, our dedicated volunteers will review it. If approved, you will be contacted within 3 business days to schedule a meet and greet.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we work to make thoughtful, lifelong matches.

Availability

Meet and greets are scheduled only for dogs listed as AVAILABLE.

Dogs not listed on our website are not available for adoption yet.

No Holds or Deposits

Toe Beans Animal Rescue Society:

  • Does not accept deposits

  • Does not hold animals

  • Does not ship animals

  • Does not maintain waiting lists for unposted dogs

Applications must be submitted for the specific dog you are interested in.

During the Meet & Greet

Supervised Introduction

All initial interactions are supervised by adoption staff to ensure safety for both the dog and the adopters.

Interaction & Assessment

You will have the opportunity to interact with the dog to assess compatibility. This may include leash walks (when appropriate) and observation of handling skills.

Family Attendance

The ENTIRE household must attend the meet and greet.
This includes all adults and children living in the home.

Existing Dog Compatibility

If you currently have dogs, they MUST attend a compatibility check at the shelter prior to adoption approval.

Important Considerations When Booking an Appointment

Home Environment Match

Please consider how the dog will realistically fit into your household and lifestyle.

To avoid mismatches:

  • Do not book a meet with a nervous or fearful dog if you have young children

  • Do not book with a high-energy breed if you cannot provide sufficient exercise and mental stimulation

Our team is happy to help guide you toward a dog that fits your home.

Requirements for Existing Dogs in the Home

  • Vaccinations: Must be up to date

  • Spay/Neuter: Must be spayed or neutered

    *Medical exemptions may be considered on a case-by-case basis*

If It Doesn’t Work Out (Returns)

Welcome Back Policy

Toe Beans Animal Rescue Society is committed to taking back our dogs at any time, regardless of how long they have been adopted. The dog’s well-being is always our top priority.

General Returns (Change in Circumstances / Not a Fit)

  • Within 5 days of adoption: 50% refund

  • After 5 days: No refund and a surrender fee will apply

Returns for Serious Behavioral Issues

If a serious, unforeseen behavioral issue arises within 5 days of adoption that poses a safety risk to people or other animals, the dog may be returned for a full refund.

Dog Adoption Fees

  • Puppies (under 1 year): $525

  • Adult Dogs (1–6 years): $450

  • Senior Dogs (7 years and older): $275

What’s Included With Adoption

All dogs adopted from Toe Beans Animal Rescue Society are:

  • Spayed or neutered

  • Microchipped

  • Fully vaccinated with core vaccines

  • Vaccinated for rabies (age-appropriate)

Puppies under 4 months will have received at least 2–3 sets of vaccines, depending on age. Dogs 4 months and older will be up to date on rabies vaccination.

You can welcome your new companion home knowing they are protected and cared for.

Payment Information

Accepted payment methods:

  • Cash

  • Debit

  • Credit card (additional processing fees may apply)

  • E-transfer (EMT)

Full payment is due at the time of adoption.
