FOSTER APPLICATION

Our fosters give pets a wonderful and often redeeming, healing experience filled with hooman love and socialization that helps prepare them for their happily furever after. Our foster homes are one of the most important steps in helping a pet survive and thrive.

Requirements for Becoming a Foster Home

Fenced Property
A foster home must have a secure, fully enclosed fence at least 6 feet high. Dog runs are not acceptable. If the property is on acreage, there must be a securely fenced area designated specifically for the foster dog.

Distance
Foster homes must be located within a 45-minute driving distance of Red Deer.

Transportation
Fosters must be able to transport animals to and from the shelter and veterinary clinics. At this time, we do not have sufficient resources to provide transportation.

Adoption Days & Vet Visits
Foster homes must be willing to transport foster dogs and/or cats to veterinary appointments and adoption events in Red Deer and surrounding areas.

Living Conditions
All foster dogs and cats must live indoors. Our animals deserve to be loved and cared for as part of the family inside the home.

Rental Properties
If you rent your home, written permission from your landlord is required prior to fostering an animal.

Vaccinations
All resident animals in the foster home must be fully vaccinated and up to date on core vaccinations, including rabies.

Allergies
Please consider any allergies within your household. If someone has allergies, we can only place an animal in the home if symptoms can be safely and effectively managed.

Quarantine Period
Upon arrival, all foster animals must complete a mandatory two-week quarantine period with limited contact with other household pets. A spare bedroom, bathroom, or similar enclosed space is required. Garages are not permitted, even if heated, due to potential exposure to fumes, chemicals, and other hazards.
