Why We Don’t Do Same-Day Adoptions
Adoption Is a Lifelong Commitment
At Toe Beans Animal Rescue Society, we believe adoption should never be treated as a quick transaction.
Our goal is not simply to get animals out the door as quickly as possible. Our goal is to find them the right home, a home where they can feel safe, settle in, be understood, and be loved for the rest of their lives.
That is why we do not offer same-day adoptions.
We believe bringing an animal into your family is a decision that deserves time, thought, and consideration. An animal is not a purchase that can be returned simply because the initial excitement wears off or the situation turns out to be different than expected.
They are a life.
Every Adoption Should Have Thought Behind It
We believe this applies to every adoption, regardless of where the animal comes from.
Whether you are adopting from a rescue, shelter, pet store, adoption event, or an individual who is rehoming an animal, bringing a pet into your home is a major commitment.
Before making that decision, there should be consideration given to things such as:
The animal’s personality and temperament
Energy level and activity needs
Medical or ongoing care requirements
Behaviour and training needs
Compatibility with children and other animals
Your household and living environment
Your daily schedule and lifestyle
The financial commitment of caring for an animal
The time and attention the animal will require
Your ability to care for the animal throughout their entire life
Falling in love with an animal is wonderful. But love should be accompanied by preparation, commitment, and realistic expectations.
Why We Take Our Time
Our adoption process gives us an opportunity to get to know each adopter and understand what they are looking for, while also considering what each individual animal needs.
We have conversations about the animal’s personality, history, needs, and behavior, and we consider whether their needs and the adopter’s lifestyle are a good match.
Sometimes the animal you initially had your heart set on may not be the best fit for your household. That doesn’t mean the adoption has failed. It means we are doing what we can to help find the right match.
A responsible adoption is about finding the right animal for the right family, not simply finding a family for an animal as quickly as possible.
We Aren’t Trying to Make Adoption Difficult
We understand that it can be exciting to meet an animal and immediately want to bring them home. We understand the feeling of falling in love with those big eyes, tiny paws, wagging tails, and unique personalities.
But excitement should not be the only thing guiding a lifelong decision.
Our process is not designed to create unnecessary barriers or make adoption complicated. It is designed to give everyone involved the time and information needed to make a thoughtful decision.
It’s not about making adoption harder.
It’s about making adoption last.
Quality of Life Over Adoption Numbers
We don't believe success should simply be measured by how many animals leave a rescue or shelter.
Success is seeing an animal go into a home where they are understood, cared for, and loved, and where both the animal and their family can thrive together.
When speed becomes more important than compatibility and preparation, there is a greater risk of animals being returned, passed from home to home, misunderstood, neglected, or rehomed again.
When we slow down, ask questions, gather information, and make thoughtful matches, we give animals a better opportunity for stability, safety, and a true forever home.
Rescue Is a Responsibility
Every animal deserves more than a quick placement.
They deserve a home that has considered the commitment, prepared for the responsibility, and understands that caring for an animal means being there through the good days, the difficult days, unexpected expenses, changes in circumstances, and everything in between.
We would rather take a little more time to make the right match than rush an adoption and risk that animal needing another home later.
Rescue is not a race.
It is a responsibility.
Our promise is to do everything we reasonably can to give each animal the best possible chance at a safe, happy, stable, and loving life, and to help adopters make a decision they can feel confident committing to for years to come.
Because the goal isn't simply finding an animal a home.
The goal is finding them their forever home.
